Ali Cemal (1881-1941)
Born in Beirut in 1881, Ali Cemal graduated from military school in 1901 and from Sanay-i Nefise School in 1906. He then spent a long time as painter at Akşam newspaper. He was one of those Turkish artists to produce war paintings at a studio founded by Enver Paşa during World War I. Ali Cemal was especially successful with his portraits, landscapes and still lifes. He died in Istanbul in 1941.
