Emel Korutürk
Emel Korutürk (1915 -)
She was born in Istanbul. She completed high school in Switzerland and started her artistic studies there. She participated in the “10th Year of the Republic Exhibition” in Ankara in 1933 when she was 18 years old. Her work attracted the attention of Atatürk, who expressed his thanks to her. She graduated from the Istanbul Art Academy in 1936.
Her husband organized the first reception for artists at the Presidential Palace when Fahri Korutürk was in office. Emel Korutürk personally encouraged art galleries and helped to establish the State Painting and Sculpture Museum in Ankara. She provided Fikret Mualla’s 34 piece of works of art for display at this museum. The artist still lives in Istanbul and has many works of art in various museums.
