Hasan Hulusi Mercan (1913 – 1988)

Mercan was born in Söğüt in 1913. He completed his primary education in Söğüt and his secondary education at the Bursa Teachers School, finally graduating from the Fine Arts Academy in 1945. He worked in Bursa as a painting teacher and was then sent to Paris where he studied painting for six years. He held many exhibitions there, and continued his activities after returning to Türkiye. Mercan lent works to many joint exhibitions, especially to the State Painting and Sculpture exhibitions.

The artist had his own individual style and died in 1988. His works are reminiscent of mosaics, and are emotional and harmonious.
