Illumination and Heating Tools in Dwellings
When we examine folk architecture, we see that fronts of the houses are built
facing the south in order to facilitate lighting. In order to provide protection
from the cold, the walls are thick and the windows small. Ceilings and floors
are covered with different techniques, using mud, matting etc.
In earlier times, heating was provided by the stove. Today, wood-burning
stoves and other modern methods of heating are used. Lighting used to come from
the thick trunks burning in the fireplace. One trunk would burn all night long.
Kerosene lambs, gas and oil lamps were introduced later. Today, electricity
is used for lighting.
