Chick Peas with Celery Greens

CHICK PEAS WITH CELERY GREENS (Kereviz Yapraklı Nohut)

1 cup garbanzo beans (if not canned, 1 cup dried beans must be soaked overnight and then boiled in salted water for one hour)
1 1/2 cups celery greens
1/2 cup chopped onions
1/2 cup corn oil
1 tsp. sugar
salt and pepper to taste

Cook onions in the oil until they are transparent and add the garbanzos that are half cooked, stir for a few minutes, then add the celery, sugar, salt and pepper. Add 3/4 cup water to simmer for about half an hour. Garbanzos must be well cooked and the celery not mushy. Serve warm.

Serves 6.
