Caves of Kastamonu
Ilgarini (Ilvarini) Cave
Location: Kastamonu, Pınarbaşı District
Properties: The cave had been composed of two sections. The cave is an active one and the stalactite and stalagmite activity still continues. A chapel and a burial ground was found in this cave.
By the Ministry of Forests, United Nations Improvement Program and FAO, Kastamonu Varla Canyon, Ilgarini Cave and surroundings are chosen as the sample project site. By FAO Ilgarini Cave was chosen as the 4th biggest cave.
Sarpunalınca Cave
Location: Kastamonu, Küre District
The cave is located at the Şenlik village Sarpunalınca quarter of Devrekani, Küre. The cave is reached via Küre-Sarpunalınca forest road.
Properties: The cave is totally horizontal and is an active cave. The cave is 662 meters long and drains the water collected in the Sarpunalınca region.
The waters advances among a single crack between the rock blocks and is released as a spring by a small siphon of 3.5 meters at the exit. The cave is not rich on the basis of formation. The mouth of the entrance and the spring outlet mouth has a very beautiful nature. As the cave mouth is covered with grassland, camping is comfortable. The peppermint field laying between the cave entrance and siphon grants another piece of joy to the trip.
Kuyluç Cave
Location: Kastamonu, Şenpazar District
The cave is located at the border of Şenpazar district and is 3 km away from Şehriban Creek and 4 km. away from the Devrekani Creek.
Properties:The cave is also called as Dağlı Kuyluca. The entrance of the cave is wider than the deepest point in Türkiye which is Çukurpınar Sinkhole (-1190 m.). At the cave entrance, two rivers combines with each other forming witch cauldrons and advance as a single branch. This single branch probably joins with the caveat 40-50 meters. There are waterfalls nearly at every 100 meters inside the cave and a wind breeze is sensed towards the waterfall. The temperature varies between 10 - 20 oC.
